Others on Ayuso:
Scott M. Reid of the Orange County Register:
“Already one of the Pac – 10’s premier perimeter
shooters, Ayuso has a chance to become one of the league’s leading
scorers and top defensive stoppers”.
Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles
Daily News: “Ayuso is the best shooter
and possibly hardest worker on the team…and has lived up to his nickname
of ‘El Rifle’, which he gained in his native Puerto Rico.”
Henry Bibby on Ayuso:
“Larry is a very good defensive player with
good foot-speed and quickness. He’s a solid outside shooter who
can help stretch the defense. As one of only two seniors, I expect
Larry to take a leadership role this year. He’s been to the NCAA
Tournament and knows what it takes to get there.”
New Mexico J. C. 1995-96:
Ayuso averaged 10.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals
per game as a freshman at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New
Mexico. Ayuso led the Thunderbirds to a 24-11 record and the NJCAA
Region 5 Championship. Ayuso, a noted catch-and-shoot three point
gunner, was 58-of-153 (39.9%) from the arc and earned team Defensive
Player of the Year honors. He played in all 35 of the
Thunderbirds’ games and scored 367 points in 665 minutes. Ayuso
also was included in Bob Gibbons’ “All Star Sports” list of top
freshmen college guards.
